Signs you've got fleas

  1. Itchy bites

Small, itchy red bites, often in clusters around ankles and lower legs.

  2. Scratchy pets

Cats or dogs scratching, licking or biting at their fur more than usual.

  3. Flea dirt

Tiny dark specks in pet bedding or carpets. On damp white kitchen roll they turn reddish-brown.

  4. Jumping specks

Small dark insects jumping on carpets, rugs or your socks, especially in rooms pets use.

Why it's worth acting fast

Most of a flea problem is hidden. Adult fleas are only a small part of it; the eggs, larvae and pupae live in carpets, gaps in floorboards and soft furnishings.

A female flea can lay dozens of eggs a day, so the problem can grow quickly if only the pet, or only the home, is treated.

How we raid fleas

  1. Raid.

Your Raider checks which rooms are affected, explains how to prepare, and gives you a free quote.

  2. Remove.

We treat the affected areas of your home. You'll need to keep off treated floors until they're dry, and treat your pets with a product from your vet.

  3. Relax.

Seeing a few fleas for a couple of weeks afterwards is normal as the last ones hatch. If they're still there after that, we'll come back at no extra cost.

What to do right now

Do

  • Treat every pet with a product recommended by your vet
  • Vacuum all floors and furniture before the visit
  • Wash pet bedding on a hot wash

Don't

  • Don't wash or steam-clean carpets straight after treatment
  • Don't treat only the pet or only the home, do both
  • Don't use pet flea products on a different type of animal

Fleas: your questions answered

Pupae are protected inside their cocoons, so new fleas can keep hatching for up to two weeks or so. They'll come into contact with the treatment and die. Keep vacuuming every day to help.

Fleas can be left behind by previous occupants' pets, or come in from wildlife or a visiting animal. They can wait in carpets for weeks before hatching.

You'll usually need to stay off treated areas until they're dry. Your Raider will give you clear timings for your home.

Sometimes. Your Raider will tell you upfront and include it in your free quote, so there are no surprises.
